Dad Drives me to School

Because I beg him
To drive me.
I’m sitting in the Acura,
Tired and dreading school,
As usual.

I have a math test,
Third period, and wish,
It was on Monday,
As usual.

Dad is driving,
I’m in the passenger seat.
WE talk about
Schoolwork or current events,
As usual.

We pass,
The canal,
We look and admire it,
Try to point out any
Cruise ships,
As usual.

We stop
In front of the school,
I open the back door,
To get my things,
And my foot was in the wrong place,
At the wrong time.

He had accidentally,
Put his foot on the accelerator,
And out of nowhere,
I cried out.
He had run over my foot.

I hold back tears,
Say goodbye, and
Walk into school,
As usual.
