Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Have you ever read a book and then seen the movie based on that book? Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is just that. The book was written by Rick Riordan and the movie was directed by Chris Columbus. In my opinion, the book is better, but the movie was outstanding. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief; a movie that is unpredictable in what comes next.

A twelve-year-old boy named Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) discovers he is son of Poseidon (Kevin Mckidd) and that all the Greek myths that he’s learned about, are real. He goes to a school called: Yancy Academy for troubled kids. He’s a “troubled kid” because humans think he has ADD and dyslexia.

While Percy is going on with his own life, Zeus (Sean Bean) has discovered that his lightning bolt was stolen. He believes that Percy stole it since he is son of Poseidon and since Poseidon is forbidden to steal it, he sent his son to steal it.
Percy must retrieve the lightning bolt from whoever stole it and return it to Zeus by the summer solstice or there will be war. With the help of his protector named Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) they will try to complete this quest.

I personally like the book more, but it’s a close call. The book has more details on their quest and half of the events that happened in the book, didn’t happen in the movie. I don’t want to ruin the surprise of what happens, but watch the movie and read the book and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

I strongly recommend this movie to children of all ages. It has suspense, action, and an interesting plot. Both, the movie and the book do. I hope you enjoy reading the book and watching the movie.

Avatar

The military comes to new universe, takes all the resources they want and get out. They don’t even bother to try and reason with the indigenous people. They just think they can walk in and take what they want because they think they’re better and more powerful. Sound familiar? Well, it happens on Pandora, except this time, there may be more to it.
Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is an ex-marine that is traveling to Pandora-a new universe. He is a part of the Avatar program. The only reason that the military is there is because they want a very valuable resource called unobtanium. That is where Jake, Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), and Norm Spellman (Joel Moore) come in. They must learn the ways of the Na’vi people (how they live, what they eat, their traditions, and their culture) and gain their trust to get them to relocate to a new home because their home is planted over the largest deposit of the resource.
At first, Jake’s mission is just a mission, but it could all change when he meets Neytiri (Zoe Saldana)- an important member of the Na’vi tribe.
The military is “trying” to offer a trade, but they don’t seem to be trying hard enough because the Na’vi people want nothing that is being offered to them. They’re offering things that the people have figured out to do or make for themselves. The military thinks they could easily enter their land and take over it. Will the military win this battle or will the Na’vi win it and prove them wrong?
James Cameron: the director of the incredible movie, Avatar also happens to be the director of another well-known movie, The Titanic that also won 11 Oscars. Once again, James Cameron shows his creativity. Avatar was even nominated for 9 Oscars and won 3 of them!
Watching Avatar feels as if you are actually being transported onto Pandora. The world was beautifully created by James Cameron. The plants, wildlife, and the Na’vi people on Pandora seem as though they are jumping off the screen, especially since it was released in 3-D.
I strongly recommend this movie for people who enjoy watching Sci-Fi, action, and adventure. If you are the type of person that likes laid-back movies with not a lot of action in it, then you may not like the movie as much. Avatar: a truly brilliant movie that has a surprise around every corner.
